Installation Guide for TrekLight Products
Welcome to the installation guide for all TrekLight Pty Ltd accessories designed for sprinter and crafter vans. This guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing our range of products, including Wheel Carriers, Ladders, Combo’s, and the Universal “BackPack” Carriers, onto the barn doors of your vehicle.
Before You Begin
- Compatibility: These instructions are suited for both sprinter and crafter vans.
- Tools Needed: Prepare to drill two holes per item on the back doors.
- Important: For vans with 270-degree hinges, a “hinge modification” is required for proper installation. Alternatively, consider replacing them with standard 180-degree hinges by a professional.
What’s Included
- Stainless steel fasteners
- Backing plates
Safety First
Installation requires two individuals to prevent any damage to the vehicle or product.
Installation Steps
- Prepare Hinges: Insert dome set screws inside the hinge, ensuring the dome head is inside. Sprinter van products will include internal hinge washers.
- Assembly: Place a flat washer between the product and the hinge. Mount the wheel carrier/ladder onto the set screws. Secure with a nut on both the top and bottom hinge to align the item correctly.
-
Securing the Product:
- Add a flat washer, spring washer, and nut in sequence on the remaining threads. Tighten to a point where adjustment is still possible.
- Confirm the alignment and positioning before drilling the support holes, as no adjustments can be made after this step.
- Drilling Holes: Secure the support side, mark the door using the item’s holes as a guide, and drill accordingly. Remove the item before drilling to protect its finish.
- Back Plate Installation: Access the door’s interior to install the backing plates.
- Final Assembly: Reattach the item, tightening until the bolt assembly is snug. We recommend applying Loctite to the threads. Secure the support plate with the provided M6 SS fasteners, nuts, and washers.
- Sealing: Apply automotive body primer on the holes. Inject silicone into the drilled holes during final installation to prevent water intrusion and rust.
- Weight Limit: Consult your vehicle’s manual to ensure the barn door hinges are not overloaded.
